Cravings

April 11, 2010

Woke up early this morning considering it’s a Sunday and I could have slept in until whenever. =/ Meh.

Upon waking, I tried to decide on something for breakfast, but couldn’t, so I just grabbed some random stuff…

A banana, no sugar added applesauce, and an Odwalla Berries GoMega Superfood juice. In the juice? Apple juice, orange juice, cherry, peach, pear, mango, blackberry and strawberry purees, ground flaxseed, lemon juice, and inulin. Very simple ingredients, indeed! I was very hopeful about this juice, as I generally like Odwalla’s stuff. But… I don’t know. The juice was… okay. It was VERY thick, almost to the point of smoothie consistency. Which would have been fine, but the flavor was a little off for me. It was drinkable, but not something I’d buy again.

At around 12:30 I started to get hungry again, so I grabbed a Bear Naked “Grain-ola” bar (Fruit + Nut flavor).

It was DELICIOUS. I seriously love Bear Naked. I’ve liked every product I’ve tried of theirs. I use their “grain-ola” in my yogurt and even eat it plain! And their bars are very gooey and melt-in-your-mouth yummy. =) I highly suggest their products.

As for now… it’s 2:00pm and I’m having a massive craving for white chocolate oats. Yup. Maple & brown sugar (lower sugar) Quaker oats, white chocolate chips, wheat germ and almond butter. Sounds good, right? Well, that’s because it is. And I’m really seriously craving that delectable dish right now. But I’m afraid that (with dinner) it would put me way over my calorie goal so I don’t have room for it. Maybe as breakfast tomorrow?? Or maybe JUST MAYBE even for dinner tonight =P We’ll see.

Ugly… but tasty!

April 10, 2010

So I may not have had the most photogenic of all dinners, but it sure was yummy! First, I started to make some carrot fries:

  • carrots (I didn’t count how many) cut into the shape of fries
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp salt

All mixed in a bowl together until each and every carrot “fry” was covered in delicious salty cumin-y oily goodness. =)

After coating the carrots in the seasonings and oil, I spaced them out onto a cookie baking sheet and put them in the oven at 400* F for 20 minutes.

While the carrots were baking, I threw together a mushroom & pepper stirfry:

  • 1/4 yellow pepper
  • 1/4 red pepper
  • 1/4 orange pepper
  • mushrooms (again, I didn’t count how many)
  • 1/2 yellow onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 tsp tomato paste
  • tumeric

After chopping everything up, I sprayed a sauté pan with 1-cal I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter spray (hello, chemicals!) Then I sautéed the onions and garlic until the onions became translucent. Added in the peppers and mushrooms, sautéed some more, then mixed in some tomato paste and tumeric. A weird combination? Maybe. Tasty? Yes.

I didn’t do the carrot fries quite right – they weren’t crispy… I’ll have to experiment with different times in the oven until I get it right. But they were still DELISH despite not being crunchy. The cumin and carrot combination definitely rocked my socks. As for the pepper stir-fry, my favorite part was the mushrooms. 8-)

That’s it for me tonight most likely. The carrots and stir fry really filled me up considering I hadn’t eaten in 5 hours! But I do have a bad habit of snacking late at night… we’ll see what happens. I’ll update if I do eat. (One thing about this blog — it does help me a little to not snack as much, since I feel like I should capture a picture of what I eat!) Except for yesterday, when I just ate and ate without picturing anything. Hrmph. Well, I’m making progress. So I’m happy for now. =)

My kitchen smells

April 10, 2010

There’s a funky smell coming from the kitchen and neither me nor my dad can figure out where it is coming from. =/ So annoying.

Food-wise, yesterday was crap. I ate lots of junk and just kept eating and eating. After my friend came over. I find that I eat a lot around friends – stuff I wouldn’t have eaten if I were alone. I guess it’s better to binge with good friends than binge by yourself, though? Whatever. I’m not even going to try to understand myself on this one. At least not right now =P

Today for breakfast I had 2 Dannon Light & Fit blackberry yogurts topped off with some Bear Naked Fit Triple Berry Crunch granola.

Alongside I had a Bon Dia Acai Energy (Conquer) drink.

After breakfast, for lunch my friend and I made a smoothie. I split it with her, so we each had half of…

  • 1 banana
  • frozen peach slices
  • 2 Dannon Light & Fit strawberry-banana yogurts
  • Odwalla Superfood juice
  • 2 scoops Genisoy strawberry-banana soy protein powder

That’s it for today so far. About 690 calories… not too shabby. =) Don’t know yet what I’m going to do for dinner. Maybe a pepper stir-fry?? Hmmm. Dunno. We shall see.

Not the best day food-wise

April 9, 2010

It’s 1:30pm and I feel like I’ve already eaten soooo many calories. I probably have, and you’ll see why:

For breakfast, I took two snack sized Dannon Light & Fit vanilla yogurt and dumped them out into a bowl. Then I topped the yogurt off with some Bear Naked Fit Triple Berry Crunch granola. =) Mm, mm, good lol

Sorry the pictures are so blurry. I wish I had a more techy camera or just better skills at using one. =/ Ah, well. I don’t so I’ll just have to make due with what I can get :P

After that, for some lunch, around 11:30am, I had some celery with reduced fat peanut butter. Lots of peanut butter. I don’t even want to guess at how many calories and fat I ate through the pb.

It was tasty, because I love peanut butter…. I just wish it was healthier! I need to get an all-natural peanut butter or just stick with almond butter. Hmmm.

And the last thing I’ve eaten so far today? Fruit snacks. Oh, so healthy!! =/ Today’s not been the best day eating-wise for me…

On the bright side, I got a 100% on my homework my first try! yayyy go me

Din Din

April 8, 2010

Had a roast beef wrap for dinner – a Mission Carb Balance burrito-sized tortilla, 9 slices of roast beef, and mustard. I had grapes on the side.

I added a little too much mustard to the wrap – I couldn’t even really taste the roast beef, just the mustard. =/ Oh well.

I keep feeling like I want to binge. Just eat and eat and eat. It’s really annoying and hard to control. >:| I hate it. So far I’ve had 1275 calories – which is just enough. I don’t need any more. But I have a feeling I’m going to be eating something later tonight… I don’t want to at the moment, but I will later on. Probably around 7 o’clock. I’m going to try to stick to my no-eating-after-9pm rule, though. Hopefully that will stick.

Fruitified Zone Perfect blueberry bar

April 8, 2010

I just ate this as a snack as I was feeling quite peckish despite my really big Green Monster.

OK. That alone is enough to deter me from eating this bar. Why didn’t I look at the ingredients list when I was picking these up?? Because I’m so not used to caring about what’s actually in my food. I’m used to just focusing on calories.

What bothers me about the ingredients list? Well, for one, I can’t even pronounce a lot of what’s in there. Sure, mostly those are vitamins and minerals, but whatever. I don’t like not being able to pronounce what’s listed as an ingredient in my food.

Also what bothers me is the fact that there’s so much oil and corn syrup / fructose in the bar. I guess that’s what makes up the bar’s fat content… 1 gram of saturated fat. Doesn’t sound bad, but as I was typing down the ingredients all I could think of was “why did I eat this??”

If you’re not deterred by the ingredients list like I am… let me tell you about the flavor of the bar. It’s almost too blueberry-y. There are dried fruits which account for a lot of the fruit flavor, but it was a little too strong for my liking. I would have preferred a granola-y bar with a hint here and there of fruitiness from dried fruits. This bar just screamed “Blueberry!” all throughout. Which some people may like, but I didn’t.

Don’t get me wrong, though; overall, the bar was still tasty. I just don’t think I’d buy it again because of the huge list of ingredients. I like my ingredients list to be made up of just a few items – recognizable, pronounceable, and something you’d find in an everyday kitchen. This bar didn’t satisfy that want.
